Meet the team
“For me, the craft of hairdressing means more than just doing hair. You're continuously working within a proces of learning, developing and sharing. At Salon Backstage, I am a creative coach for the stylists and assistents. Besides that, I am a product-educator for the brand Bumble&Bumble and Olaplex Master. Sharing knowledge and inspiration is really important to me and that always comes back in my consult with a client. I exactly want to know what a client has in mind and expects from me. Together, we work towards a beautiful and sustainable result. That can be small, or really big changes as well. My clients inspire me to give my all. You'll see that in my work. Cutting curls makes me really happy (it's one of my specialties) and I also love to create beautiful color changes.”
Tamara is available on Thursday and is present as a coach for the stylists on Friday
“I always wanted to be a hairdresser and I've been one for 9 years now. I used to work at Toni&Guy, where you always, according to the English method, pick one specialty: cutting or coloring. I chose cutting and I am a curl specialist. I have curls myself and I know exactly what a client means and feels when it comes to his/her curls. I am now doing a colortraining to freshen up my color knowledge. I want to develop myself when it comes to coloring. I think it's very important that a client feels comfortable, that's why I always take my time to get to know you. My approach is personal, I am very visual. I love making big changes with small adjustments." Daniek is currently on maternity leave till August 10th.
“My dad was a barber and I grew up in an environment of hairdressers. That was 35 years ago. I'm from the USA and worked at Hollywood for a long time. The clients were a bit more edgy and artistic there, in the Netherlands people want a more natural look. My goal is to look at each clients hair, long or short, and give them an unique, custom and personalized look. I find paying attention to details very important! Visiting a salon should be an experience: service with a smile and a relaxing washing massage are part of that! I love to bring a little bit of Hollywood to Rotterdam." Gary is available at Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every last Sunday of the month.
“I traded law school for my passion to create beauty. I'm from Lithuania originally, but I started my creative adventure in London. My study at the Pivot Point International Academy (hairdresser's academy) brought me to the Netherlands. This has become my home base. I think it's very important to bring out the beauty in every client, male or female. That's why I also went to Ladies School and Barber School at Heads Academy. There, I found out that I love to cut men. It became one of my specialties. Come to me for a nice fade! I also love to create 'sexy hair'. A beautiful, classic bob or long, sunkissed hair.. I love it all! Highlights and balayage, to be creative with color is what I like to do the most. I always take my time to get to know you, so we can align your color and haircut to your personality!" Karolina is available at Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and every other Sunday.
“I'm from Lithuania. I had an international career before I came to the Netherlands through Switzerland. It's really important that a stylist looks at his/her clients personality. What fits and what doesn't? I take my time to choose a fitting haircut together. Coloring is my passion and specialty. When it comes to color, I feel a bit like a kid again. You're never done learning within or craft, and I want to continue learning to become a Master Colorist. A nice color can do so much for someones hairstyle and, of course, personality. I'm an allround stylist. I don't cut hair, I create Personalities." Marius is available at Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every other Sunday.
“I wanted to be a 'hair artist' and started my career at Toni&Guy. Now, it's a decade later and hairdressing is still an artistry to me. You can see this in my long, glamorous coupes and bridal hairstyles. I think it's very important to create a custom look for every client. This is only possible if there is a mutual connection and the client feels comfortable around me. It's always a challenge to connect my love for coloring and styling seamlessly. To make natural looking, shiny hair is my specialism. Through my experience with working backstage at fashion shows, I discovered my love for make-up. I am available for (bridal) make-up. My clients are my biggest inspiration. These are mostly ladies, because I am a true ladies only stylist. Women inspire me to create whatever fits them. A custom made piece of art! (Sorry gents!)" Shirley is available at Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
“I came in as a customer, but now I am front desk manager (and assistent-manager). I have a big affenity with the craft. I got my hairdresser's degree in the past, but worked in different functions. As front desk manager, I look after our clients are provided with the best (and cosiest) hospitality services that fit within Salon Backstage. Besides that, I make sure that our stylists can practice there profession without worrying so that they can provide their clients with the best service."
“I started my journey at Salon Backstage as FDM and I still enjoy this work every Sunday. Besides this, I've been a brow artist for a few years now. I graduated my Communication study last December and decided to follow my dream: opening my own brow studio. On May 1st, Backstage Brows was born. You can visit me for several brow treatments, lash lifting and also microblading (semi-permanent make-up). I highly value the brow's natural shape and, of course, your personal wishes. It's my mission to emphasize your natural beauty with a killer pair of brows!" Backstage Brows is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“I got my hairdresser's degree in 1989 and worked in several reputable salons in The Hague. Unfortunately, I had to give up my passion due to eczema and the last few years I have been a manager in the fitness branch. After a long time, I am excited to continue my great love for hairdressing in a different way. I am the proud owner of Salon Backstage since last summer. I started here as Joyce's right hand, but the time had come for the next, logical step to be taken. In Salon Backstage, I work as a hostess and I take care of the total salon experience for our clients and stylists. Besides that, I'm busy on the background developing new things and innovations in our salon and for our stylists. Do you have a question or suggestion? Let me know!"
“I am a Belfast girl bringing my creativity for hair to Rotterdam. Hair is my passion, and over the past 10 years working in the industry, it has continued to grow! Hairstyles and trends are ever changing and this is why education is so important to me. Attending many courses in cutting, barbering and specialized in color have given me great knowledge and understanding for my clients wants & needs. I am an allround stylist, but specialise in color and creative color. I believe we can let your personality speek through your hair, and have a little fun in the proces!" Zoë is available on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every other Sunday.
